Our Hunts - Our hunts are fair chase, public land hunts and include resident and migrating herds. We abide by all game laws set by the Wyoming Department of Fish and Game. We accommodate both archery (including crossbow) and rifle hunts. We access hunting areas mostly by horseback. All of our horses are very experienced and capable in the mountains, but they are animals and there is always some risk involved with being in the backcountry. During your hunt, you may leave the bunkhouse as early as 4:00 AM, depending on weather conditions and hunting location. Your guide will drive you and the horses to the trailhead before embarking on an hour or more trail ride through challenging, dark conditions to reach the hunt area. Upon reaching the hunt destination, we will stop, tie up the horses for spot and stalk style hunting. Most of the time you will return to the headquarters well after dark.
Our Hunt Areas - Most of our hunts are within Bridger Teton National Forest. They include most of the Salt River Range Drainage and the Greys River Drainage. Both these areas have a low wolf population and no resident Grizzly bears. Making for very healthy elk and deer herds and a worry-free hunting experience. Additionally, we are permitted to operate on Teton National Park for cow elk hunts and The National Elk Refuge for free range bison and cow elk hunts.
Harvest - After your harvest, your guide is responsible for field dressing and delivering your animal to the bunkhouse. You are responsible for your own processing and transportation to your home. Salt River Range Outfitters provides meat processing facilities, including a walk-in cooler, at the house if you prefer to process your own meat for transport. There are also professional processing facilities in Thayne and Afton. Processing times may vary, shipping charges may apply. There are also taxidermy services in Afton or you may transport your trophy to a taxidermist of your choice.
Physical Condition - Your chances for a successful hunt is greatly dependent upon physical condition. Our base elevation is 6,255 feet and hunt elevations may be up toward 10,000 feet. High elevations make physical activity more intense, the better shape you are in physically, the more enjoyable your hunt will be. If you would like recommendations for training, please contact Salt River Range Outfitters.
Marksmanship - Please shoot your gun before arriving in Wyoming. We ask that you be comfortable with ranges up to 500 yards. Some clients choose to use Salt River Range Outfitters rifles, if this is the case, please still shoot your gun prior to arriving to be comfortable with shooting in general. If archery hunting, be comfortable shooting a pie plate at 30 yards.
Lodging - Our bunkhouse has 4 twin beds in a shared room upstairs, bunk beds in the main living area, a large family style dining table, a shower, toilet, sink and satellite TV. Salt River Range Outfitters provides clean bedding and towels.

The cook will have a sack lunch ready for you to take in your pack, including sandwiches and snack items. Please let us know when booking if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies that our cook should be aware of.
Transportation - You may fly or drive to Star Valley. If you choose to fly, we can arrange a shuttle to and from the airport for an additional fee. Flying may save some time, but you may find having your own vehicle is more convenient, especially if transporting your harvest home.
